Coffee, Men, Chocolate, Champagne and Cheese - Some Things are Better Rich

Coffee, Men, Chocolate, Champagne and Cheese – some things are better rich, don’t you think?
I have a taste for champagne, blue cheese and chocolate. And here are three of my all time favorites –
Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Double Gloucester Stilton and Moon Pies. We might discuss men over a cup of coffee a little later, ok honey child.

"There comes a time in every woman's life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne."
Bette Davis in Old Acquaintance
Champagne
The Champagne bottle design is born as much out of style as it is necessity. The thick glass with its gently sloping shoulders and a deep punt (the indentation on the underside) are necessary as the pressure inside the bottle is 80-90psi (3 x the pressure inside an average car tire).
Bottle 0.75 litres
Magnum (2 bottles)
Jereboam (4 bottles)
Rehoboam (6 bottles)
Methuselah (8 bottles)
Salmanazar (12 bottles)
Balthazar (16 bottles)
Nabuchadnezzar (20 bottles)

"Age is not important unless you’re a cheese.” Helen Hayes
Cheese
Gloucester Stilton is a highly valued cheese for its superior flavor that goes well with Port wines. The flavors of both cheeses complement each other to provide a distinctive tasting appetizer or dessert cheese to be served with beer, hard cider, or wine

“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.” Charles M. Schulz
Chocolate
This little bite of heaven has been made in Tennessee since 1907 and has become a Southern staple. Though there are several flavors available, my favorite is the chocolate coated graham cookies with marshmallow filling. When you microwave a Moon Pie, it transforms into a decadent dessert. The matte chocolate gets glossy and the marshmallow center gets gooey and it sort of puffs up. Of course it depends on your microwave, but place unwrapped Moon Pie on plate in microwave for 6 seconds, flip over and microwave 6 more seconds. Enjoy! Kids love them and even adults who usually turn their nose up to this old fashioned confection have been known to crave them. Nothing to clean up or prepare - who can beat it!

Okay, Libby... you have me going. I now feel compelled to leave the house at midnight (actually nearing one) and go get some moonpies to nuke in the microwave! I am determined to try this as it sounds decadent and wonderful.

I also appreciate the recommendation on champagne and cheese, and I love all of the quotes!

This post made me smile, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Happy Blue Monday...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Oh, you had me at champagne and bleu cheese! And add PORT to that, and I'm in. I'm not sure if what we knew as "Scooter Pies" in the north when I was a kid are the same as moon pies, but I'm wishing we'd had microwaves back then in the Dark Ages; that sounds fabulous. Thanks for a lovely, fun post --and now I have to go straight upstairs to sleep before I detour to the kitchen or the wine fridge!

You had ME with the champagne and first quote! while attending a banquet in London one time I was told by someone at my table that "one is supposed to drink champagne, not sip it." That made me feel so much better!

ahhhh yes,... rich, absolutely. One of those items in the "rich" category is still elluding me, though! I love chocolate fudge with a good white wine. and of course cheese,.. I'm partial to Cabot from our neighbors in Vermont. Champagne,.. with o.j. if before noon! Must get back to work, can't daydream about rich things any longer this morning!

Well--for goodness sakes, Libby. After all of my years in TN, I have never heard of or thought to microwave Moon Pies. That does sound delicious!!!! Thanks!!!

I also love cheese---most anykind/anyway. I am a blue cheese lover --but I also like a shart cheddar.

I enjoy Champagne --but prefer a sweet red wine --and sometimes a White Zen.

Have a great day on this gorgeous Monday.
Hugs,
Betsy

lol Libby I was thinking I would need to get a bigger glass for the Verve Nabuchadnezzar, we sometimes eat a selection of cheese n crackers instead of dinner and the moonpies look and sound just like what we call wagon wheels across the pond, loved all the quotes, hope you have a wonderful week, cheers, Kathy.
