Open a can of Eagle Brand condensed milk and pour it into a bowl. Gradually stir in clean, fresh snow until the mixture reaches the consistency you like. Then add vanilla to taste. This is so simple, yet fun for children of all ages and it's sinfully delicious!
We've had snow in Jackson Tennessee since around eight this morning and after four hours, it's still coming down in big beautiful flakes. The birds are gobbling up their food on the back deck. Senator is snoozling by my feet after romping in the snow and rubbing his face it it. There's a pot of soup on the stove and a cup of bourbon pecan coffee in my hand as I edit my book.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
My friend, Terry Ford, the epicurean extrordinaire just called with this marvelous suggestion . . .
Lemon Cream
Eagle Brand condensed milk
1/4 cup lemon juice
zest of one lemon
Plenty of fresh clean snow!
Now how fine does that sound?

I'll be making a batch later this afternoon...I'm about 5 hours west of you and we have been getting snow since around noon....how much do you have on the ground now? Happy snow day
G'day Libby ~ Oh, how I remember doing this when we were children, & my children were wee. What fun we had. Your snow is headed N in our direction ... MD.
Have a beautiful weekend.

The snow must be so pretty! When I was a kid, we made snow ice cream, but did not have anything "fancy" like sweetened condensed milk. We used regular milk, sugar, and vanilla. I am sure your recipe is much, much better!

These look delicious Libby, It's cold enough in London for snow :-).
Ours just started. They said yesterday it would start at 3pm. It started literally at 3pm on the nose today. The weatherman was right, I about fell out of my chair! Stay warm!
What a wonderful thing to do with the snow. Stay warm.

I have been living with snow all my life here in Chicago and never knew making 'snowcream' could be this simple!! I love it. Naturally, we have no snow right now!

Delicious! My three little ones will love trying this after they wake up from naps.
This sounds delicious. But not enough for me to wish for snow! Stay warm, your day sounds perfect to me. Kathy
We always used reg. milk , but have not made any in many years. We ended up with about an inch of sleet and snow this morning - not good for snow cream. Ice is forming on the trees as I type this. Just hope we don't lose power. "They" say we will get more tonight - hope "they" are wrong. :)
Come on Spring!
Here in the New York area, you've gotta scoop your snow mighty fast if you want to EAT it! Otherwise, it's not really appetizing. :-)
What a cute idea. I will remember this, because it sounds delicious!

I agree with MB... spring is coming too slow
Snow ice crean is one of my favorite childhood memories!--Mostly sleet here so far!
Hi Libby! It's been awhile. You seem to be embracing this snowy day. Good for you. It's probably somewhat of a treat for your area. I remember making snow cream as a child, only then we didn't add the Eagle's milk. I bet that's good in it.
Such a content and happy post. Nice to read your writings again.

YUMO! I have been absent from blog land and how I have missed you.
I took the dogs for a walk today, and the snow was to the top of my boots. I can't remember when it snowed this much in TN. Love this recipe (and your friend's recipe for lemon cream, too). Happy writing (I'm still editing my novel)!
My goodness, I have not made snow cream since I was a little girl! Since we're supposed to get some more of the white stuff (s**w - is a four letter word to me right now) -- I may have to try this again.
I made this recipe - and blogged about it - it was amazing!!!
