Brown Sugar Pie
Oh it melts, it thickens, it smells, it's magical, and just perfect for your sweetie pie!
My friend Julie Wood, who is the fabulous graphic designer/artist for my book shared the recipe with me. It's a regional dish popular in parts of middle Tennessee. Make no mistake, it's a keeper. Her mama, Freda Gann mastered this recipe years ago and it's one of their family favorites.
2 cups brown sugar
3 tablespoons flour
1-1/2 cups milk
4 eggs, seperated
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Put sugar and flour in a saucepan and mix well. Add milk; place over medium heat, stirring constantly. Beat yolks in a bowl; adding a small amount of hot liquid at a time, beating as you add; return to hot mixture. Cook, stirring constantly to keep from sticking. Add butter and cook until thickened. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour into two baked pie shells, top with meringue and bake at 350 degrees until golden.
Meringue
Beat the egg whites until stiff. Add 2 tablespoons sugar and beat until peaks form. Spoon over top of pies.

Libby this sounds delicious, I love butterscotch pie and this would have that yummy flavor! Thanks so much for sharing on the Granny Mountain Facebook page, have had no luck begging for family favorites! The regional recipes are soooo good and hard to find. Hope you are having a good weekend sweetie~
