You just can't improve on perfection and for me this is one appetizer that is always in style to serve. Three of my favorite things, all together, yum!
1 package of pitted dried dates
Gruyere or Asiago cheese cut into small cubesBacon, cut into halves or thirds, depending on the size of the dates
Cut a pocket into the dried dates and stuff each with a cube of cheese. Wrap each date with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick or on a wooden skewer which has been soaked in water. Place on a rack on a sheet pan lined with foil.
Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 10 minutes; turn and bake 5 to 10 minutes longer, or until desired consistency is reached. Turn on broiler for a few minutes to finish crisping the bacon. Remove and drain on a paper towel. Serve with a dipping sauce such as Hickory Smoked Honey Mustard or Cranberry Pepper Jelly, or your favorite.
