Gone With the Wind Grits - rumored to be Rhett's favorite and Scarlett knew it!

 Gone with the Wind Grits
This dish had to have been served up at one of the brunches at Tara. Just like the classic movie, it just doesn’t get any better. Imagine the smile on Rhett’s face when he tasted the deliciousness Scarlett had created for him. They always said,“The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” and some say this was Scarlett's prize recipe. . .
1 cup grits, quick-cooking (if not adjust cooking time)
3 cups milk
1 cup chicken stock (homemade is so much better)
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 stick butter
4 ounces cream cheese
1-3/4 cups sharp or white Cheddar cheese, grated
1/4 cup jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
2 large eggs, beaten
1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
In a medium pot, add milk, chicken broth, salt, pepper and hot sauce. Over medium-high heat, bring the liquid to a slight boil. When milk is bubbling, whisk in grits. Reduce heat, letting grits cook until thick, about 5 minutes. Add all the other ingredients except (1/4 cup cheese) and stir until the cheese and butter have melted. Pour into a greased casserole dish. Bake, uncovered, in a preheated 350 oven for 30 to 45 minutes or until set in the center. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and run under the broiler for a minute or two to brown.

I thoroughly LOVE grits, especially stone ground coarse ones.
