Memphis Beer Burgers
A group of friends who are fire-fighters in Memphis Tennessee make these yummy burgers at the Fire Station on a regular basis. They are delicious, as are the onion rings they also cooked that night. While I was there they got two false alarms, but suited up none the less and off they went, coming back to finish supper. While they were gone, a chef friend and I finished up a Peach Melba Cobbler we had brought for them and served it hot out of the oven with plenty of good vanilla ice-cream. Remember the fire-fighters who are there for us all at times of emergencies; take them a dessert or treat them to BBQ or spaghetti one night. We're making a big pot of chili and delivering it this weekend.
4 (12-ounce) bottles of beer
2/3 cup honey
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon hot sauce
Mix the beer and honey in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil, reduce to moderate heat, and cook until reduced to one cup. Let the mixture cool then add the remaining ingredients. Spoon over hamburgers as you assemble with fried onion rings.
