Holiday time means many things to different people, but
in the South it’s all about the get togethers – planned or not. These treats
are stored in tins around Christmas time to serve when friends drop by. My Mother always called them Nutcrackers. They’re great with coffee, soft drinks, or a cup of hot chocolate – and if
somebody doesn’t like these, then honey you might as well shut the front door
and get back to what you were doing!
Line cookie sheet with graham crackers; sprinkle with
pieces of nuts. Boil 2 sticks butter and 1/2 cup sugar for 2 minutes; pour over
crackers. Bake in a preheated 350 oven for 10 – 12 minutes. Loosen with a
spatula when you take out of the oven. Top with 1 cup mini-chocolate chips and
allow to sit until hard (you can chill to speed this process)Separate into
pieces when cooled. Store in an air tight container.
